Who are we?
We are a small group, formed in
September 2004 with interests in Power boating, learning to Water Ski and
generally messing about on the water - but always in a safe, fun way with
total respect for other water and land users and the environment.
Why this Website?
3 Reasons
1 - Power boating since January 2004
we have become a little frustrated at the lack of facilities for Power
boating and the lack of help that appears to be out there for those new to
the sport, there seems to be plenty of help and support for sailing - and
that's good, but out of all the clubs we have enquired with only one seemed
particularly keen to welcome a novice Power boater.
2 - The clubs with which enquiries
were made seemed to be looking at membership fees in excess of £300 per
year, more if you happened not to live close to their base and more again if
you owned your own boat? It is as if someone wishes to keep the sport
'elite'.
3 - There is very little in the way of
public facilities for Power boating, some local authorities / public
organisations seem to view Power boating as a destructive anti social
activity and do not provide the same or similar level of facilities as they
do for other watersports - we think that all sports should be treated
equally.
We have formed a small group to
simply bring together like minded individuals so that they can enjoy
their sport together thereby giving them greater opportunities to do so,
but also to give people who would like to try the sport, but who cannot
afford their own equipment, the opportunity to do so - opening out the
sport to all, not just those with lots of money.
Also, where possible, to share
resources and equipment thereby limiting the expense and financial
outlay of any one individual
(although all equipment is
individually owned we encourage boat owning members to take non boat
owners out with them and to share equipment),
it is not about making lots of money, having lots of bureaucracy and
owning expensive buildings - although the use of a private lake would be
nice.
We would like to use the group
platform to ask and persuade these authorities to allow power boating
the same freedoms as these other watersports, by providing or allowing
the use of resources and facilities in order to encourage more people
into the sport.
How often do we meet?
We let our hair down when ever the
opportunity arises. This is never often enough but the more members the more
opportunity, and that's where we would like you to come in - to increase
numbers and opportunities for fun.
Where do we carry out our activities?
Being based in South Wales most of our
activity takes place along the beautiful South Wales coast, generally around
Barry (where we have our own slipway), Cardiff, Porthcawl and The Gower. We also know of some brilliant
private lakes in the Cotswolds and Somerset. We have our own slipway
at Barry which members have unlimited use of.
We would however like to try out new
waters around the country so if you know of any let us know using our
Feedback link opposite
I'd like to experience some of these
activities, but I don't know how and haven't got my own equipment.
Whilst we don't formally teach any of
our activities we would be more than happy to let you safely experience them
alongside us to decide whether you would like to take some formal training.
We won't even expect you to join our group on the first time, but please see
fees below.
Do I need my own equipment
To start with no, but later you would
need to buy your own personal equipment such as wet suits, life jackets etc.
All boats and equipment used within and by the club
are privately owned but many members will allow you to use their equipment
to start you off.
How can I join your group?
All you need to do is complete the
application form (click here),
we may arrange a short informal meeting, and if you then still wish to join
you simply pay your fees and start enjoying power boating - fees are of a
low amount just to cover expenses such as the cost of this web site,
telephone, lease fees etc.
Unlike the high fees charged by some
clubs the reciprocal use of equipment is expected instead. We can then all
have fun.
